Dear Parents,
We would like to address several misconceptions that have arisen following the announcement of the closing of six elementary schools in June 2012. First, some are saying that the Diocese is not committed to retaining all students from the schools that are closing. To the contrary, our goal and expectation is that all students impacted will register at neighboring Catholic elementary schools. We have the capacity for all of the students to be able to attend a Catholic school. Information Sessions and Open House visits have taken place to assist families in their selection of a new Catholic School in their area and many families have begun to register their children in new schools.
In 1992 when we closed twenty-two schools in June and re-opened ten regional schools in September, we lost no students and continued to increase enrollment for the next seven years. Our hope is to retain all students in the closing schools again this year. The decrease in school age children and the difficult economic climate on Long Island, among other factors, have resulted in fewer students in our schools and have brought us to the painful decision to close schools.

STUDENT APPRECIATION DAY IS TUESDAY, JAN. 3151-. STUDENTS IN GRADE PK-4 MAY DRESS AS THEIR FAVORITE BOOK CHARACTER AND STUDENTS IN GR 5-8 WILL BE ASSIGNED A CERTAIN ERA (THE 50'S, 60'S, ETC) AND SHOULD DRESS ACCORDING TO THE TIME PERIOD. WE WILL ALSO GIVE STUDENTS AN ICE CREAM TREAT.
REREGISTRATION FORMS have been sent home. THERE IS ONLY ONE FORM PER FAMILY. PLEASE RETURN BY FEBRUARY 27TH WITH YOUR $50 DEPOSIT. REREGISTRATION CANNOT BE ACCEPTED IF YOU ARE NOT UP-TO- DATE IN TUITION. This is the only way we can know who is coming back in September and plan the classes for next fall. New students will be registering as of Catholic Schools Week and we want to give our OLOP families top priority, but we also want to keep the class size at 30 per class. AFFILIATION FORMS
Parish affiliation forms for the 2012-2013 school year MUST be sent in by July 1st so that we may properly bill you in August. Invoices are dated from August to May. It is easier for everyone if we enter the proper amount the first time. However, if we do not receive a signed affiliation form, you will be billed at the non-affiliated rate.
FUNDRAISING
Please register at Stop and Shop so the store will give us a percentage of the money you spend on groceries. You do not pay any EXTRA money but they will give the school a donation based on sales. You can shop at any Stop and Shop. Just go to their website www.stopandshop.com/aplus put in your information and your Stop and Shop card number. It is so easy!
